Overview

This document describes the kinds of equipment in the Emle. They currently focus primarily on the goal of integrating the relationships between fractions, decimals and visual representations of each.

• Toggle between segemented and un-segemented

  Handy for showing how 2/4 is the same as 1/2. 7-Apr-2001

• Circle Unit Fractions 2/4/8

  Control a circle which adds a selected unit fraction to the already displyed unit fractional pie slices. A reset button clears the graphic. Available unit fractions are 1/2, 1/4 & 1/8.

• Solid Circle

  Numerator (N) and denominator (D) control a graphic of a single pie slice of a single circle is shaded of N/D size.

• Rectangle/Fraction

  Numerator (N) and denominator (D) control a horizontal rectangle graphic divided into D vertical bars, N of which are shaded.

• Solid Circle Fraction/Decimal

  Numerator (N) and denominator (D). Like "Solid Circle" plus displays N/D fraction and the decimal value of N/D.

• Circle/Fraction/Decimal

  Numerator (N) and denominator (D) radio buttons control a graphic of a shaded fraction of a circle. The circle is divided (rather than solid) into N pie slices of which D are shaded. Additionally, both the N/D fraction and its decimal equivalent are displayed.

  Control a circle which adds a selected unit fraction to the already displyed unit fractional pie slices. A reset button clears the graphic. Available unit fractions are 1/3 & 1/9.

• Visualiztion of N Divided by D Becoming N Over D

  A sequence showing a visualization of N divided by D transforming visually into one forth. For example:

• Circle/Fraction/Decimal Adder

  Denominator 1 & 2 over Numerator 1 & 2, D1, D2, N1 & N2 control decimals and graphics of shaded pie slice of circle These are added to produce a third set of N/D, decimal and graphic.

• Rectangle Horizontaly & Verticaly Divided

  Number of horizontal, H, and number of vertical, V, divisions to a rectangle grid. H & V control graphic display of the rectangle.

• Rectangle Horizontaly & Verticaly Divided Adder

  Denominator 1 & 2 over Numerator 1 & 2, D1, D2, N1 & N2 control decimals and graphics of horizontaly & verticaly divided and shaded rectangle.

• Rectangle Horizontaly & Verticaly Divided Reduced

  Numerator (N) over Denominator (D) control graphics of horizontaly, H, & verticaly, V, divided and D shaded parts of a rectangle. Where H divisions of the reduce value of the denominator and V is the LCD of D & N. Reduced values for D & N will also be displayed.

• Rectangle Horizontaly & Verticaly Divided Reducer

  Numerator (N) over Denominator (D) control graphics of horizontaly, H, & verticaly, V, divided and D shaded parts of a rectangle. Where H & V divisions are controlled by user to see the look the purpose reducing the fraction.
